We're Almost Outta Here!

So, I took quite the break. I pretty much figured out the life of a married college student is not so exciting and very, VERY busy, but that is soon coming to a close! Only a few more weeks until my final graduation. Crazy! Anyways, we're heading to Oklahoma to sign the papers for our HOUSE! I'm so excited! I might chronicle a few of our attempts to fix up the house on this blog. We shall see how it goes....

Anyways, my dear friend's little boy turned 1 year old this month! I remember the day he was born and he's such a big, handsome boy now! To be a little creative, I decided I would make his gift. I saw a great tutorial on a different blog for customized baby blocks and I really wish I could remember the name of it.

Here is basically what I did. I used some of my leftover scrapbooking paper and bought some wooden blocks and stickers at my favorite place, Hobby Lobby!
After I had all my supplies, I used the blocks to trace out the correct size of paper I would be needing. On a few of the planned sides, I added stickers to the scrapbook paper.
Then I used my trusty modge podge to adhere them to the wooden blocks. I think if I were to do these again, I wouldn't modge podge the top necessarily, but you live and learn. It turned out fine, just a little harder to work with.
Once all the paper was glued to the blocks, I sandpapered down the edges so they were rounded off. This makes it more safe for the little kiddos and also gives it a nice well-used look. I planned out a different theme for each side: his name, numbers, different colors, animals, different patterns, and a picture of the cutie-pie.
I also sprayed some sealant on them so the modge podge wouldn't get soggy later on if water was spilled on it. This also took away some of the glossiness of the pictures. Overall, I was very happy with how they turned out and he seemed to like them when he opened them. He immediately screamed with happiness and threw them! Hahaha, he really enjoyed that part.

I'm linking this up to A Soft Place to Land's DIY Day.

Check It Out!!

P.S. There's an awesome giveaway from MckMama!! http://mckgiveaways.blogspot.com/2009/12/hp-touchsmart-giveaway.html

It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas

He got in! That's right, PC is going to Med School. I am excited for him and excited that I can finally start job and house hunting now that we have an idea of where we will be at. Yay! Anyways... the last couple of days have brought on a change in the weather... and my blog layout! It snowed pretty hard yesterday and it looked pretty beautiful out. All white and fluffy and perfect for sledding... you know if you were fortunate enough to not work or have college classes. But I saw a ton of kids on their snow day enjoying themselves thoroughly and it made me smile! PC was a little less happy but only because our land lord didn't shovel our parking lot. He grumbled a bit about it and then was done :)

I also attended my first passion party - now for you married ladies out there, I thought they were great! Informative and sassy and fun :) I ordered some things which were pretty tame but fun nonetheless! Can't wait!

PC and I also started a new tradition for ourselves by buying a real Christmas tree and decorating it together. He was definitely funny trying to hang all those adorably small and fragile ornaments and he only broke two, haha! He definitely had some choice words and said something along the lines of "how the heck do they expect me to not break the stupid things when I can't even get them outta the box!!!" under his breath of course. I just laughed at him. He just said "Bah humbug" back. Gotta love my Scrooge!!

Compare and Contrast

Things we have in common:
- Love of cooking... and eating
- Football fans
- Stubbornness (not the best thing to have in common)
- Sarcasm
- We both pretend we can sing...
- Love of random facts

Things we don’t have in common:
- He is a foot taller than me
- I am the clean freak – he could go weeks...months...years without it
- He SMOTHERS everything in sauce – mustard, BBQ, ketchup, ranch dressing, you name it – and I lightly drizzle things
- He gets things done early... I wait until the last minute
- He’s habitually up at the crack of dawn... I would sleep all morning if I could
- He is a risk taker – sometimes I avoid them at all costs

Somehow we are each other’s perfect compliments. The Big Guy Upstairs definitely knew what he was doing :)

Oh The Things He Is Learning :)

I am convinced PC’s high school had possibly the worst sex education class I have ever heard of. According to PC, it was football coach who said “Just keep it in your pants, ladies and gentlemen.” Hahahaha! He has asked me a few funny “girl” questions in the last few weeks. I won’t mention the questions because I think PC would be quite embarrassed, but he has learned a lot of female things since we have been married. I am not entirely sure why he hasn’t figured them out in the 3 and a half years we dated but I think he chooses not to think about such things :)

Yummy Yummy

What is the saving grace of a newly-married woman, you ask? A crockpot.... It is truly the meaning of life. Just kidding, but I truly LOVE a good crockpot recipe and PC and I try to use one once a week, especially now that it’s colder. We set out everything at night and toss it all in the morning and leave for work/school. And in 6-10 hours, voila! The apartment smells yummy and the food is cooked moist and delicious! This week is some BBQ pulled pork. Yuuuuummmmmm! I know your taste buds are drooling now. Some of our favorites are : Santa Fe Soup, Mexican Chicken, and Stew.

P.S. We have 3 different crockpots and use ALL of them, so be careful what you take back after you open all your wedding gifts. You never know when something may come in handy :)

Piggies 1 - Cindy 0

The H1N1 got me. That’s right, I have the swine flu. Gross, huh?? Well PC doesn’t have any symptoms yet so I am supposed to isolate myself from him. Jasmine and Belle also have it so we are hiding out at their apartment. We’re calling it Sicky Island. So far on our agenda… watching multiple episodes of Friends on DVD, eating popsicles by the box and having our food delivered (since we can’t go out without those fashionable masks). PC is understandably upset that I am not staying at our apartment but I think we both know it is for the best.

On a more positive note, PC has gotten 2 interviews for medical school so far (I don’t believe I have mentioned he was applying before)! He heard about both this week and I am sad I am not able to properly celebrate with him so far but just wait… once I am better, he better be ready to party :)

I can tell he is going to be an amazing doctor someday because he has been trying to take good care of me this week until I had to quarantine myself. Making me smoothies and giving me backrubs so I could fall asleep. What a guy!

P.S. Jasmine’s brother got us some popsicles and Sierra Mist and PC brought us green tea and a movie. Are we the luckiest swine flu victims or what?!?!?!
